Unison signs representation agreement for the collection of digital rights with Angola's SADIA

By Emmanuel Legrand

Barcelona-based rights society Unison has sealed a new representation agreement with the Angolan Authors' Rights Society (SADIA) for the collection of digital rights in Europe for the repertoire of more than 35,000 songs by Angolan authors, composers and publishers members of the society.

Unison said SADIA members will now "be represented in their digital rights throughout the Pan-European territory through a single point of contact, thanks to our multi-territorial license agreements with DSPs, social networks and other users of musical works."

This is the second agreement for digital collections in Europe inked this month by Unison after the agreement signed with Brazilian company Smart Rights

Provide transparent and efficient services

SADIA is a non-profit organisation started in 1990. It is licensed by the National Service of Copyright and Related Rights of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Environment for the collection and distribution of copyright and related rights. SADIA represents authors in all literary and artistic disciplines.

In a statement, the two societies said they were both "committed to providing efficient, transparent and state-of-the-art services to the music industry and are committed to expediting the receipt of rights for the vibrant Angolan music industry."

“It is a great honour for us to have you as partners," said about Unison João André da Silva Feijó, President of SADIA, who added that the collection of digital rights in Europe will be a significant new source of revenues for Angolan authors.

Optimise digital collections in Europe

Added Unison CEO Jordi Puy: “We are grateful to SADIA for trusting us and very happy to serve as the representatives of Angolan creators in our joint mission to optimise their digital collections in Europe. We see this agreement as the beginning of a long and fruitful journey together.”

Unison started operating in 2020 and claims to manage the rights to more than one million songs, representing more than 270 customers from 12 countries.
