Ireland's Association of Independent Music joins European trade body IMPALA

By Emmanuel Legrand

The steering committee of the Irish Association of Independent Music, composed of 12 members from across all sectors of the Independent music industry, has appointed music manager Gill Dooley to the role of Interim CEO.

“We will strive to represent a collective of people whose work is often misunderstood and undervalued," said Dooley. "And for those beginning in this industry, one which is often not seen as a legitimate career path, we will be there for support and guidance."

She added: "In truth those who work independently within music – artist managers, music producers, music PRs, promoters, publishers, labels and more – contribute enormously to the country’s economy. They should be represented at a national and international level. AIM Ireland can help to regulate and professionalise many sectors within independent music."

An exciting music sector

The news comes as AIM Ireland has been accepted as a member of IMPALA, the Brussels-based association representing independent music companies in Europe.

“Ireland's independent music sector is one of the most exciting in Europe, and we welcome the establishment of AIM Ireland, a trade organisation whose mission aligns with IMPALA to grow the independent music sector sustainably, return more value to artists, promote diversity and entrepreneurship, improve political access, and overall inspire change," said IMPALA Executive Chair Helen Smith.
