Music Deals -- Week 19 2021

Believe-owned distribution service for independent artists TuneCore has announced a partnership with Loopcloud, an app which allows users to preview and modify four million royalty-free samples. Loopcloud is offering TuneCore Artists 1GB of samples and loops for free.

Hipgnosis Songs Fund has acquired a catalogue from producer, mixer and engineer Andy Wallace, who is credited on albums with over 120 million sales worldwide. Wallace has collaborated with artists such as AerosmithBruce SpringsteenColdplayGuns N' RosesJeff BuckleyNirvanaPaul McCartneyPrinceRage Against the MachineRun D.M.C.Sonic Youth, and White Zombie, among others.


Sony Music Publishing UK has signed British songwriter and producer Ben Jackson-Cook to a worldwide deal. Jackson-Cook has been Rag’n’Bone Man’s musical director and collaborator, co-writing and co-producing his album 'Life By Misadventure', out on May 7.

New York-based music company Reservoir has signed songwriter and artist Daniel Breland (pka BRELAND) (pictured, below) to a worldwide publishing deal. The agreement includes his full catalogue and future work. "I’m a genreless songwriter that wants to blur the lines between cultures with my pen, and I’ve been looking for a team of people that would know how to take what I’m doing to the next level,” says BRELAND. “I think the Reservoir team embodies that genrelessness in a really exciting and progressive way."


Warner Chappell Music Nashville has signed a global publishing deal with performer, songwriter, producer, Martin Johnson of pop punk band Boys Like Girls. Johnson most recently co-wrote and co-produced Lady A’s current single 'Like A Lady' and also wrote and produced Elle King and Miranda Lambert’s 'Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home)'. 

Influence Media Partners, through its $100 million investment fund, set up with Municipal Employment Retirement System, has acquired copyrights from the catalogue of singer and songwriter Julia Michaels from both her career as a solo artist and works for other artists, including Clean BanditSelena GomezLinkin Park and Kygo. Influence is a New York-based music and entertainment investment firm.

British distributor Proper Music Group has signed a deal with reggae label VP Records to distribute their catalogue in the UK. The agreement covers sales, warehousing and logistics, and also includes hub services such as delivering product to EU-based distributors. Founded in 1977, VP Records' catalogue includes over 25,000 master recordings. VP’s label President Randy Chin said, “Proper is known to be the best when it comes to independent music, they share our commitment to selling physical products and we look forward to the partnership.”

Chumba Music, the publishing and production company of US producer and songwriter Jason Evigan, has signed a partnership with Sony Music Publishing to provide administration services to Chumba's roster of songwriters and producers. "We are thrilled to welcome Chumba Music to Sony Music Publishing," said Sony Music Publishing SVP, Creative Amanda Hill. "Jason has built an incredible roster, and the success of Gian Stone's career is a testament to his passion for uplifting creators." Chumba Music's publishing roster includes Gian StoneLionel CrastaMark Schick and Bluf; and its production roster includes James Royo, and Rafael Fadul.
