The planned transition at the top of leading independent music publisher peermusic has reached a new step with the elevation of Deputy CEO Mary Megan Peer to Chief Executive Officer, taking over from her father Ralph Peer II who becomes Executive Chair of peermusic, after 37 years at the helm of the company.

“Now is the time for the next generation to step into this leadership role," said Ralph Peer II. "Nothing could make me prouder or more pleased than to announce Mary Megan’s appointment as CEO. As Executive Chair, I look forward to contributing to peermusic’s future for many years to come.”

Mary Megan Peer becomes the fourth CEO of the company since 1927. Her father took over from his mother Monique, who herself succeeded her husband Ralph S. Peer in 1960. She will oversee the day-to-day running of the company, which has over 500,000 titles in its catalogue and a network of offices in 32 countries around the world.

Ralph Peer will retain corporate board responsibilities at the company and continue to provide his expertise. He will also continue to serve as a member of several industry boards, including the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) and International Confederation of Music Publishers (ICMP).

“I’m honored to be named peermusic’s fourth CEO by my father at such a strong time in the company’s history," said Mary Megan Peer. “I look forward to continuing to work with the very strong senior management team he has created around the globe.”

Reacting to the news, Uruguayan conductor and composer Jose Serebrier, who was signed to peermusic by Monique Peer, tweeted: "Mary Megan Peer, extraordinary young executive with amazing managerial skills, personality to match. Her initiatives, people-skills, indefatigable work habits, and all the skills she learned from her father, Ralph Peer II are the best imaginable news for the music industry."
