Big Hit Entertainment, the South Korea entertainment company behind the global success of boy band BTS, has re-branded as Hybe with the ambition to become an “entertainment lifestyle platform."
Big Hit founder and chief executive Bang Si-hyuk, explained to The Korea Times the rationale behind the name change: “What we think of as variation of music is that of the indefinite realm and I think the name Big Hit Entertainment cannot fully capture this concept. I thought we needed a new company name that could encompass all the business realms that we carry out, and be a symbol for our connecting and expanding structure.”
Bang added that the name Hybe symbolises connection, expansion and relationships.
Hybe's label business will regroup Big Hit Music, Belift Lab, Source Music, Pledis Entertainment, Koz Entertainment as well as Hybe Labels Japan.
The publicly-listed company has moved into new headquarters in Yongsan, Seoul, in a six-floor modern building that will host offices as well as studios and other spaces to create music and content.
