Africa’s distribution company Freeme Digital has launched Freeme+, a new platform that will provide A&R, marketing, sync licensing and publishing services for independent African rights holders.
Freeme+ is designed "to identify and support the most promising African independent artists and labels with investment and deeper levels of support." The first signings to Freeme+ are duo The Cavemen, Nigerian comedy act Basketmouth and up-and-coming artist NINETY.
The new platform will operate under Freeme Digital’s new premium label services and distribution arm Freeme Music. It will also work in tandem with the company’s other divisions — Freeme TV, The Freeme Space and FM Publishing.
A partnership with Revelator
“As the pace around the world picks up for African music, Freeme Music
and Freeme+ will be at the forefront of finding new artists and future
global stars from the continent and bringing them to worldwide
recognition and success,” said Michael Ugwu founder and CEO of Freeme Digital.
Freeme Music has also partnered and integrated with distribution and data services Revelator to power its digital distribution and data management dashboard, KORA.
KORA was designed specifically for the African market with a mobile-first operating system, to match digital consumption patterns on the continent. As well as enabling track upload from mobile, the new platform integrates with local mobile payment partners.
Support African artists
Bruno Guez, founder and CEO of Revelator added: “We are proud to be providing the protocols, platforms and management systems that will help and support new and established African artists realise their full potential on both the local and international stage.”
Freeme Digital was founded in 2013 by Ugwu and is headquartered in Lagos with offices in London. Launched in 2021, Freeme Music claims to be Nigeria’s largest distributor of audio visual digital content.
