British B2B digital music solutions company 7digital has renewed a contract with Universal Music Group France to provide support to its streaming service operating under La Poste Mobile, and fan-facing music playlist service Digster. The two companies's first contract dates back to 2018 and the new contract extends that relationship for an initial minimum term of 12 months.
UMG France has a partnership with La Poste Mobile, one of France's most popular mobile virtual network operators (MNVO), to offer a music service to its mobile subscribers. Content on the streaming service features music sourced from UMG's catalogue of music genres and artists, and uses 7digital's technology to access the catalogue as well as provide back-end user reporting.
Niche offerings
7digital's music-platform-as-a-service will also continue to support Digster, a subsidiary of UMG France, to offer curated playlist services bundled with telecom operators offerings in Europe and the emerging markets of Africa and the Middle East, including the Ivory Coast and Cameroon. 7digital will also enable Digster to service "a niche catalogue of tracks that can cater to different markets and regional tastes."
"This contract renewal demonstrates 7digital's utility in supporting the expansion of the global audio streaming market," said Paul Langworthy, CEO of 7digital. "With the growth of streaming services clustered around the $9.99 price point reaching a saturation point, there is a growing opportunity in the market for niche offerings that differentiate themselves by characteristics such as access, format, curation, geography, or genre. In addition, as global smartphone usage continues to rise, particularly in emerging markets, we are thrilled to support the development of services that allow more music to be consumed around the world."
